  • What kind of paint do you use?
For interior murals, we use water-based low or zero -VOC latest paints that are Green Build Certified. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are the compounds associated with the harsh odors sometimes associated with paint. Paints with low or no VOCs have much lower or none of these compounds contain little to no odor and are much safer for use indoors. You can learn more about VOCs here. For exterior murals, we use water-based exterior acrylic latex paint that provides extreme weather durability, mildew resistance, and UV protection.
  • How do you price your murals?
There are many factors that go into pricing a mural, so unfortunately there is no "one size fits all" answer. Each mural we create is completely customized for your project. Pricing depends on the size and level of detail of the mural, rental equipment, materials and labor. We offer FREE design consultations and FREE design mock-ups, so there’s no risk in having us stop by to take a look. Budgets are always a part of the equation and we can definitely create something you love that is within your price range. For school branding projects, we can space out our visits over the course of time for your budgeting purposes. We would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding pricing once we have an idea of what you are looking for in order to provide a more accurate estimate!
  • How long does a mural typically take?
The completion time for each project will vary depending on the size and level of detail, however most projects typically take between 1-2 weeks.
  • Do you require a deposit in order to book?
Yes, typically we require a 50% deposit on a project to secure your date on our calendar. The deposit allows us to cover the cost of labor and suppplies as well as any necessary rental equipment. The remaining balance is due upon the project’s completion.
  • Who will paint my mural?
At Capital Murals we are a team of highly trained and experienced artists who together have painted hundreds of murals! We do our best to match the best suited artists to the specific project needs. At the beginning of your project you will be assigned a Team Lead who will oversee your project and will be your point of contact throughout the entire process whether you’re doing one wall or several!
  • What happens if my mural gets damaged?
When your mural is complete, we will leave you with a paint-touch-up kit that will be clearly labeled and organized for you to touch-up minor scuffs and scratches that may occur over time, as with any wall. If more significant touch-ups need to be made, we can assess the damage virtually, and provide a quote for the repairs. However, in most cases, we will provide these touch-ups totally FREE of CHARGE!
  • What happens if I’m not happy with the mural design or if I want changes once the mural has started?
You will have the opportunity to edit or change your design as much as you want during the design and revision phase. Every attempt is made to create a design and digital mock-up that is extremely accurate so you have a good idea what the final mural will look like to scale on your wall. Once the final design is approved by you, our artists follow this to a tee! We pride ourselves on the quality, accuracy, precision and craftsmanship! If you should want to make changes after painting has started, we will calculate any changes that need to be made to the cost and adjust our plan accordingly to make sure you are happy before proceeding. Once the painting is complete, we will do a thorough walk-through with you to ensure you are happy with everything before we leave!
  • Do you put any kind of protective coating on the mural once it’s complete?
Sometimes. In most cases we are already using a durable, high-quality interior latex paint so there is no need to apply a protective coating. However, in some cases, when using acrylic paints in addition to our latex paint, we will apply a clear coat to the surfaces to provide extra durability and protection. For exterior murals, we will always provide a final mural coating of MuralShield to the surface to give it extra durability.
  • What are your safety protocols for working in schools?
Great question! We love our school partners and safety is top priority for our team. We work during school hours, which means we are often in the midst of class changes and after school activities. Our Team Lead will oversee your project and ensure we have a secured work area with all of our ladders and materials out of reach from students. We use cones and caution tape, as well as taping down drop cloths, to section off the areas we are working in. Our team is scissor-lift certified and always aware of their surroundings when high up on ladders or lifts. We tuck our supplies securely away at the end of the day and are considerate of the custodial staff. Capital Murals has years of experience working within schools and we are trained professionals that you can trust! We are licensed, insured, certified, and most importantly we love what we do with students in mind.
  • So, what’s up with the Axolotl?
In 2022 Capital Murals adopted the axolotl as its official mascot. The story of why we adopted this adorable silly little salamander as one of our own, starts with a special request we received from an elementary school student named Liam. The mural we were painting was a science mural focusing on life cycles and depicted an underwater frog life cycle section. Each day, Liam would walk by our mural on the way to lunch, and ask that we please add an axolotl to the mural somewhere. (Kids are always asking us to add things to the murals, but this was before axolotl craze had swept the world, and we had never heard of them!) After describing that they were pink, lived underwater in Mexico, and had spikey gill things coming out of their head we concluded that he must be making this up or that it was a fictional character we didn’t know about. We were clueless. But Liam was persistent. Day after day, he would walk by and share every fact he knew about axolotls, and bring us a drawings, all pink with spiked protrusions from its head. Eventually the school’s principal heard about his relentless requests and explained that in fact, they were a real animal and showed us a picture. After talking it through with the principal, we decided that it would mean a lot to Liam if we were able to add it so we tucked a tiny one into the scene, and the rest is history. Liam was over the moon with excitement seeing his axolotl included! His love of axolotls was contagious, they can now be found on our stickers, mugs and can even on the dash board of our Mural Mobile! A big thank you to Liam for sharing his axololt passion and continuing to inspire us! The axolotl serves as a constant reminder that inspiration can come from anywhere, that there’s always room to learn new things, and most importantly why we do what we do and who we do it for. Thank you Liam!
